    • Quick Question: If the officer wanted him to roll his window down as a safety precaution, and he refused to do so, is the cop well within his authority to have him step out of the car until the traffic stop business is concluded?

I think if he felt it was worth the hassle, he should've been able to cite the guy for failure to do so. Seemed like the cop here was nice and professional and lenient.

  • roll your window all the way down so i can better see into your vehicle and have the ability to access anything at arm's length... you have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide. where have i heard that before? hmm. anyways, speeding is not a big deal... and because speeding is no big deal, being able to write you a ticket, warning or to talk to you hinges completely upon you rolling your window ALL the way down, even though i just did those things without you doing so... wow! amazing! lol

  • This is going to get me flak but I'll just say it. The dude was going out of his way to be annoying. Was it going to hurt him to roll the window down and make him in a legally worse place, no. All he did was create tension in what is already a tense situation. Cops get shot all the time doing simple stops on cars that are not flagged as being owned by a dangerous individual. So I think some stupid shit was said on both sides here that doesn't make the guy look good for being unreasonable. Him saying he doesn't want to answer the speeding is fine and what you are legally supposed to do. But he was being a smartass with the whole window thing. It makes me think he was the same dude that would get close and breathe all over the glass at a Subway and then when the worker asks them to stop, they would say, "I am not touching the glass and the sign says not to touch the glass. It doesn't say no breathing on it." The sad thing is I am going to get heat for this take but I am very certain that if he just rolled the window down and refused to say how fast he was going, the cop would have just run his plates, given the ticket, and then been on the way. Now we get this lengthy exchange that I am sure is a bigger waste of time for the driver. The ironic part is that probably just giving him shit because he is frustrated that he is being inconvenienced but not he is wasting even more time. Also, I find the grading kinda B.S. as the driver was stirring some shit and so the cop just followed suit. I promise you that you would not have had all this arguing if he just rolled the window down as it's not a big deal. You should give them both the same grade for being asshats about the window because the cop could have dropped it and the driver could have been less frustrating to deal with.

  • I wouldn't agree with a B- although it's all conjecture anyway, I guess. More like a C, basically average, or even C- because of how he continued to question without any grounds. To be honest, the officer came off as incredibly weird and a little stalker-like with how he continued to probe and just not let the matter go. Well done to Mr. Transparency, though, an MVP for sure.

  • I'm a very private person, and I also wouldn't open my window to anyone, even a cop, if I'm driving alone. No particular reason other than it makes me feel a bit safer and I'm cautious of catching covid. 😅 Private people have a right to protect their privacy. I think the cop felt the window was sort of a 'barrier' between them, and perhaps mentally, he felt blocked off. But some cops are arrogant and even though there's no reason to continue the boring repetitive conversation between them, he still kept trying to keep James talking... absolutely unnecessary. However, other than the repetitive requests regarding the window, this cop was very polite too, just as James was. Well done to both.

    LandMan76LandMan768 tuntia sitten
  • I don't understand this mentality. You're taking a good idea, to protect yourself legally, and stretching it to accommodate dickish behavior, not rolling down the window. The cop said he was telling, not asking, so that the driver knew unequivocally that it was being delivered as a lawful order, not a suggestion. This isn't tyranny, it's clear communication. The legality of it can be discussed later, especially with the driver having video evidence. There's no reason to unnecessarily escalate a situation just to prove you're legally "correct". This isn't the time and place for it. It puts your life in danger by making the cop think his life might be in danger. Encouraging this kind of behavior is going to get someone hurt. A traffic stop is not the place to fix police over-reach. The courts are the place for that. The driver could have easily said he did not want to, then complied while protesting and filed a complaint with evidence. It doesn't matter if you were legally correct if you end up dead. There are really bad cops out there. A lot of them. This cop is not one of them. This cop is annoyed and thinks the driver is a dumbass. He didn't escalate anything and even gave him a warning. Focus your attention on real problems and don't dilute the issue with this nonsense.
