Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to go travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling, and we didn’t want to stop after just one year! After achieving our new goal of 100 countries and then all 7 continents (check out our documentary here: fistart.info/tv/videot/q6qo2Gmgepqwy80.html), we had no plans to slow down, until 2020 decided to force us to ;) which is when we bought a converted Sprinter van to start exploring our own country for the first time. #Vanlife was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎

  • "Fined for filming in the National Parks"?! For your FIstart videos?! Filming is not a "privilege" on yOUR public land! You have a right to be there doing whatever you please, short of being a jackass of course. Unbelievable! Welcome to the Peoples Republic of the former United States. I hope you are aware that is Totalitarian Leftism, and sadly, Leftism (by any of is countless variations and names) is where we (in the USA) are going, in a hand basket!

  • Ouch! $1,000? I wonder if the fine was legit? I suppose it's technically possible, technically "commercial" but I agree with the judge saying it was unconstitutional. So, if I film in a National Park with a friend and a group of teenagers, more than 5, share it with students later, does that mean it's commercial if I upload it to FIstart? What's the issue with filming in wilderness areas? I've heard of that in Venezuela (you can be arrested there for filming in a national park! Seriously!), but not here in the states. Perhaps they want people to leave wildlife alone? (That would make sense), yet when filming for research with certain research permits, it begs the question as to where it stops and starts, especiallyfor public educational purposes. We've done plenty of footage & stills in National Parks for that, yet some was with the NPS/Dept of Interior. I'm going to have to look into this! Thanks! I can absolutely see where filming wildlife can be an issue! If everyone went out to film wildlife, it would absolutely disturb the wildlife habitat. Filming wilderness areas without all special permissions, for a specific purpose, especially for commercial purposes, could be problematic for the wildlife, the environment and pose special safety issues for any photographers/cinematographers. Thank you for sharing that tidbit for awareness! I've worked safety in wild areas for cameramen in a research setting. Yes! We had a serious wildlife injury on one trip that without the safety crew, could've easily been a fatality. We were with people very aware of the risks, and the environment there. One person took a risk against her (& the crew's) better judgement, decided to do it anyhow, and nearly lost a limb. She probably still has limitations &/or a disability because of that injury. Injuries and risks while there are wild animals, rugged terrain and/or an aqueous environment involved in the wilderness are no joke- not even with a medical staff, equipment and supplies with us. There are no hospitals, surgery theaters in the wilderness or on the water (generally- 1 exception would be the 2 navy ships and some drilling platforms have a stepped up clinic. There are a few in the woods too, but very few and far between!) Basically, if you take pictures and/or video in the parks, stay on the trails and public areas, unless you have experience and training to deal with wilderness situations, then your crew would check in (and out!) with rangers! Rescuers can, and often do, get into trouble rescuing people who go beyond their limitations, who don't plan a trip with rangers, who ignore weather conditions and warnings, and thus even if you go out there, accept the risks, etc., if you get lost or injured, you will be possibly putting some other people's lives in danger too, without realizing it. For those who do it anyhow, expect to have to self-rescue, be self-sufficient and don't expect someone to bail you out if you haven't pre-arranged a crew yourself. Thank you again for sharing this info!

  • Thank you for yuor honest apporoach and details. Sad that citizens "cannot" film in National Parks. I think you were fortunate to get a judge that seemed to agree with you. Yes, keep it family friendly. Yours is one of the few channels that is both fun and informative. BTW, my wife and I (each in 60s now) both said how much we would have enjoyed your "job" if it ha been available. We traveled a lot back in the day, but it wasn't the same. Thanks for giving us a renewed experience. Remain safe. Keep traveling. In-joy.

  • Thank you so much for spreading the word on the new policies for filming in parks. The new limits seem much more reasonable-and supportive of Independant artists. I loved today’s film. I still remember my first x-country ski day, and I also thought it was wonderful, and enjoyed many trips over my 30-40 years of vacations in the Rockies and CA Sierra’s!! Bravo! You captured it perfectly. *I’m relieved to know that the restrictions were intended to prevent damage to the parks and not for some exclusive “sales of marketing rights” boondoggle.

  • When as a young naval officer and I was stationed in Idaho Fall, Idaho for nuclear propulsion training, I would get a 4 day weekend as I recall. When the roads were NOT black ice, I would drive up north and come back down to the NW entrance. Back then, I took slides and the slides are somewhere, NOT yet digitized. But the scenes I saw will never be forgotten. At that time, I used the car and a heavy sleeping bag PLUS other blankets. I remember a few pictures of the moon setting toward the west over a snow covered mountain. The wildlife pictures during the winter are much better than the summertime variety as I remember the wildlife was worried more about survival than me taking telephoto pictures. Thank you so much for bringing back those memories! And informing me about the ruling that STOPPED the NP Nazi's from their idiotic commercial fees for amateur FIstartRS who make a few $$ with videos. The socialists haven't won, and they are NOT going to!

And I do film all the time and put it up on my channel I didn’t know I was breaking the law. • Sorry, but I don't think this is good news. This makes it possible for large, potentially disruptive and environmentally harmful shoots to happen in our national parks! There's a reason the Fed Gov wanted to protect these places; commercial shooting isn't always exactly careful about how they treat the places they film! Have you guys ever SEEN a commercial film sight? Why does EVERYTHING in this benighted nation have to be about making money? Sometimes the freedom to 'do what you want' can ruin things for everyone else, like pristine, protected wild portions of our nation.

  • Look into the ''missing 411'' and you'll start to understand WHY ''someone'' doesn't want people filming in wilderness areas of national parks ! Entertain the FACT for just a moment that there is ''something'' in national parks that is causing the LITTERAL disappearance [most times w/o a TRACE] of hikers ,climber's and nature enthusiast's in EVERY national park wilderness area across our country ! This is ''something'' that if KNOWN to the population would most likely cause people to avoid these areas and cause serious alarm in a HUGE percentage of said population ! Here are some VERY strange FACTS ! The National Park Service does NOT keep a list or database of ANY person/persons that go missing INSIDE national park boundaries ! This is HUGE in a of itself since EVERY law enforcement agency in the WHOLE country from small local PD's to the big 3 letter agencies keeps and relies on a data base of missing people and it is strangely counter intuitive to ACTUALLY believe that the NPS wouldn't keep a list/data of the number of people that disappear in OUR parks every year [look it up for yourself don't take my word for it] Yosemite has more people ''disappear'' every year than ANY other national park most under normal circumstances BUT there IS a percentage that go missing under VERY strange circumstance's ! Again PLEASE DONT take my word for it look up for yourself ,the work [missing411] by David Paulides a former police officer who has dedicated his life to documenting FACT's , understanding and disseminating to US / the public the facts on what exactly is happening to the MANY people who go missing in wilderness areas all across the country under VERY strange & specific circumstances ! #missing411 #davidpaulides
